Bulleen is a small suburb, located approximately 13 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD. We love family photography in Bulleen. Such a beautiful area with he iconic Yarra River which runs alongside Bulleen. Bulleen is still a big European settlement, popular with Italians and Greeks. Family Photography is especially nice in the bigger houses of Bulleen or in on of the several outdoor locations.
The older red brick, triple-fronted Italian-built houses, which have lasted the test of time, have a lot of appeal. Great for your family or newborn photography session. Some are being pulled down to make way for new properties (and we love these modern houses too – it’s the mix which makes it great!). Bulleen is known as Melbourne’s little Italy. And we all know how important family is in Italy! So create some moments for your loved ones. The architecture in Bulleen’s streetscape displays European origins. A great example of Italian architecture is the Brutalist style Veneto Club building, built in 1972-1973. It is now home to delicious authentic Italian cuisine.
Locations for family photography in Bulleen
Bulleen is home to the Heide Museum of Modern Art. This is where you can go to enjoy works of art by Australian artists. The beautiful gardens are free to enter and make a wonderful backdrop for your family photography. The Yarra river is close-by!
Sunday Reed’s Kitchen Garden is a beautiful area to wander around. Interesting sculptures are spread around the gardens which lead down to the Yarra River. This is a very popular spot for walks and picnics in warmer weather. This park is splendid in spring when the flowers are in bloom. It’s the perfect location for a family photography session. There are trees which kids and adults alike can climb and sit on. Spread out a picnic rug and laze the day away. The colourful corrugated iron cow sculputres make and interesting prop in photos. For those who are more interested in art you can always visit the museum after your family shoot. The Heide cafe is a very popular spot for visitors to the Heide Museum.
Bulleen Plaza is a popular spot for the locals and visitors from neighbouring suburbs. It has a large range of family-friendly restaurants and cafes which offer specialty European foods unique to Bulleen Plaza. It’s maybe a bit busy for typical family photoshoot but when you are after some lifestyle scenes you find them there.
Another hidden gem is Koonung Park close to the freeway. Pretty much any little park can give you some backdrop – ideally combine it with a shoot at your own home and you get the best of both worlds.
“One doesn’t stop seeing. One doesn’t stop framing. It doesn’t turn off and turn on. It’s on all the time.”
