Family Photography – The great outdoors in Melbourne

Parks or beaches are the most preferred family photo shoot locations for those who have little ones. It’s a safe and fun environment for them. There’s so much to do which creates lots of fun moments for us to capture! There are so many parks and beaches which are animal-friendly if you want to include your fur babies in your family photoshoot.

This beautiful family chose Westerfolds Park out in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne for their photography session. It’s only half an hour away from Melbourne’s CBD and you feel like you’re out in the country. Westerfolds Park has so many great spots for photography. The fallen tree trunks, the long grass, plenty of trees and even kangaroos if you go there late in the afternoon towards sunset! The colour of the scenery changes with the seasons. Every photography session we have had there has produced stunning images for our clients.

Pet Photography – Part of your family

This gorgeous family brought along their well-behaved four-legged family member and a couple of fabulous photo props – a rocking horse and a little armchair for the little one. The rocking horse was something which Laura had refurbished and Grace just loved riding on it. It was just perfect for little Grace to pretend to ride through the forest on! The trees were a perfect spot to play peek-a-boo in as kangaroos stood and watched from nearby. Laura was almost due with her second child at this stage, so it was great to give her some maternity shots as well.

Dogs are permitted in many Melbourne parks there but usually must be on a lead at all times.

Brighton – Fun Family Photos in the park

Some of you are reluctant to book a family photography session because you don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera. Within minutes, we will put you at ease. Take this family which we photographed at the Brighton Botanical Gardens for example. All we asked was for them to dress to compliment each other, head out into the gardens and we’ll shoot them enjoying themselves with their kids.

No posing for family phots – just have fun

There’s no need to pose in uncomfortable positions. We will snap away at you being natural. In this photo shoot, the best prop was the tree. Which kids don’t enjoy a good climb in a tree? Such a simple activity brought big smiles to the faces of both children and parents. Luckily the sun was out which gave us such beautiful light to work with.

Stylish Melbourne CBD City Photography

Melbourne CBD is full of wonderful family photography locations to suit everyone. This beautiful family chose some stylish outfits to wander around the city in. Their family photography session started at Melbourne’s architectural Webb Bridge in Southbank and ending up in the Docklands. This short walk is child-friendly and has Melbourne’s beautiful city skyline as the backdrop. This part of Melbourne is one of our favourite photography locations as it’s right on the outskirts of Melbourne’s CBD, away from the hustle and bustle. At certain times of the day, it would seem that you are the only people around.

Modern City Family Photography

Docklands is a modern part of Melbourne close to the CBD. Impressive skyscrapers, yacht harbour, stylish restaurtants and lots ofstylish backdrops. Dressing up in such a location helps to achive amazing photos for your family. Black and whites and natural colours work very well. And after the photoshoot you could always go out for a family dinner. Sunset works very well in this location – so make use of it :-).

Hello Baby,

At only just over a week old, this newborn was such a cheeky little character! With his tiny hands closed into fists, he looked like he was ready for a fight! There were really cute moments like when he had one eye closed as if he was giving a cheeky wink! Mum didn’t see that one so was very happy that it was caught in camera. Don’t you just love how a newborn baby looks so intently at you when they’re awake?

Beach Family Photography

The beach is one of our favourite places to hang out during the summer! Summer is obviously the most pleasant time to head to a beach but it’s a beautiful photography location at any time of the year. That’s why we’ve chosen it for a few of our own family photo sessions.

We’re at Altona Beach for this one. Equipped with a bucket and a fishing rod made from a stick and some rope with an apple as the dangling bait, we headed out to do a spot of fishing. Altona Beach is quieter than most beaches and has a pier which we could drop the fishing line from. Needless to say, our poor little man didn’t catch any fish but we did get photos which we love!

Melbourne Beach – Natural photos

We kept the styling for this photo shoot simple, opting for whites and neutrals. There are so many options when it comes to styling for a beach shoot. Even bold colours would work. Whatever colour choice, just make sure all members of the family are dressed to compliment each other. The best thing about a family photoshoot at the beach is that you don’t have to worry about wearing shoes!

This newbie is Harry. He was 2 weeks old when he was photographed in his light-filled room. Such a little cutie with so much hair and those big blue eyes! Luckily, Harry was quite wide awake during his photo shoot and very curious at what was happening. Harry was joined by his mum and his very fluffy fur-sibling, Fred the cat. It’s really cute to photograph the curiosity which animals have to new members of the family. Looks like Fred loves the smell of newborn babies as much as we do!

We decided to go a little dressy for this photoshoot. It’s a city location and we wanted a contrast to our previous beach shoots. Styling is so important with photo shoots, whether you choose to go with simple or a more extravagant style. Just make sure all family members are dressed to compliment each other!

Like everyone else, we have to book photographers for our own family photo shoot, especially for the shots where we are all together. It’s not easy to be our photographer as we really love to be in control of how we want our images! That’s why we enlisted the help of good photographer friends. In this case, it was Michelle and Ben from Pause the Moment Photography who agreed to use our equipment and let us do the editing.

Kids photos in Melbourne

For the shoot, we’d take photos of the kids and each other. The only prop we took along to this photo shoot was a vintage camera which we had lying around at home. This worked well in giving our little man something to do as kids get easily bored during photo shoots. We’ll always keep in mind to take along props which are fun to play with. It also makes taking nice photos a little easier. The photos of him using the camera are some of our favourites!

While we do prefer the beach and parks for the ease of the locations, it’s really lovely to use the city skyline as well. Not all city areas offer such a quiet space with a clean background to photograph. The Docklands is one of those spots but it’s quickly developing and getting denser. In quieter times, Southbank and Federation Square are also good locations around the city.

We were commissioned to create some stunning images for a little business which holds special tea parties for kids. This has to be the most beautiful kid’s photo shoots we have done to date! The kids were not models, just children of the owners and their friends. The styling was impeccable, from the peach and white colour combinations down to the high tea details laid out on the tables.

Styling a Melbourne Kids Photoshoot

It would be worth investing in a stylist if you want the same look for your children. It’s an expense which will give you a backdrop and props for some seriously stunning photos. You might even want to style your family photography session in a similar way and put it together yourself! We loved the girl’s outfits, especially their gorgeous real flower headbands! Their best accessories were their smiles!

Kids High Tea Party

The company offering these amazing high tea events for kids is “Little Mouse Teahouse“. Of course you can hire them for your kids party.

To achieve a low-key version of this type of photo shoot would be to put together a picnic. Have a gorgeous picnic rug and a rustic picnic basket filled with goodies, lay it out in a park and enjoy! You can be as elaborate as you want with your picnic. Bring in a nice tea set and drinking glasses. Include various cakes or a nice picnic platter of food. How you dress for your picnic will make a difference in your images. Pinterest is a great source of inspiration for picnic outfits. We suggest you dress everybody comfortably as you will be sitting or lying down on your picnic rug.

Visiting Melbourne – Family Photoshoot

When on a trip to visit beautiful Melbourne, why not book in a family photo shoot? We’ve had people from different parts of the world who contact us to book their family photography session here while they are on their holiday. This family had travelled from the USA and loved Melbourne’s city skyline.

Modern City Family Photos

We suggested one of our favourite photography spots, the Docklands, where you definitely get a nice skyline in the background. The Melbourne Docklands is also less congested than other parts of Melbourne’s CBD, so it’s easier to find an empty space to photograph you and your family. If the sun is out, we suggest that the photo shoot be later on in the day when the light is less harsh. Around sunset is the most ideal time for a photography session down in the Docklands.

At that time of day, the sun glimmers on the water and reflects onto the buildings around. Melbourne is just beautiful!

Natural Newborn Photography

Eva is the precious second addition to this family. Her brother Harry absolutely adores her. At 2 weeks old, she’s an alert newborn who’s behaving as a newborn should. This beautiful little baby was a pleasure to photograph. It always brings me joy to see those tiny little limbs, the tiny little facial expressions. Photographing newborn babies is a job which requires patience as I find myself waiting, with my finger on the trigger, for little actions to happen. It’s pretty special to capture these moments which are gone all too quickly.
